i-have-a-balloon-9781481472500_hrAriel Bernstein writes a tongue-in-cheek blog entitled “How to Raise Benevolent Dictators” and has been published on the Scary Mommy parenting blog and the Atticus Review online literary journal. In her debut picture book, I HAVE A BALLOON, Monkey desperately wants Owl’s balloon, but ends up happy with his own equally wonderful object: a sock. After all, it has a star on it, it can be worn on a tail, and it has a perfectly shaped hole! Defying reader expectations, this is not a book about sharing, but about desperately wanting things.  The characters return in WHERE IS MY BALLOON? Owl asks Monkey to hold his balloon, and what he gets back is, well, NOT his balloon.

Her WARREN & DRAGON chapter books feature a modern day Calvin and Hobbes-esque friendship with a dreamy boy, his smarty-pants twin sister, a girl from school (oh, and a hamster on loan from the school classroom), and his vain dragon companion.
